Tom Holland promises more realism in new ‘Spider-Man’ film

Tom Holland has revealed exciting news about the upcoming film Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The actor said the new film will take a very different approach from No Way Home.

Instead of relying on soundstages, the new movie will embrace classic filmmaking techniques and shoot on real locations.

TOM HOLLAND ON BEING SPIDERMAN

Holland expressed his enthusiasm for returning to the Spider-Man role, calling it like “hanging out with an old pal.”

He admitted that filming No Way Home was challenging because the entire movie had to be shot on enclosed stages during the pandemic, according to Variety.

“We were really limited with what we could do,” he said. “This time, we’re going to genuinely lean into old school filmmaking and bring Spider-Man back to the streets.”

FILMING IN GLASGOW

The production team will begin filming the movie in Glasgow, a city known for its striking architecture and vibrant urban scenes.

Tom Holland explained that the city’s streets will form the backdrop for a major set piece.

“We are going to use the streets of Glasgow for this massive sequence we’re putting together,” he said.

This approach marks a major shift from the tightly controlled studio environments that dominated filming on the last movie.

SPIDERMAN AND LOCATION SHOOTING

South African fans, who have grown up loving Spider-Man’s urban adventures and stunning visuals, will likely appreciate this return to location shooting.

The familiar sight of actors navigating real city streets adds a layer of authenticity and excitement that studio sets often struggle to capture.

It also opens opportunities for more dynamic action scenes and practical effects, which can resonate more strongly with viewers.

DIRECTOR FOR SPIDERMAN

Destin Daniel Cretton, acclaimed for his work on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, directs the new Spider-Man film.

This is a change from Holland’s previous three Spider-Man films, which were all directed by Jon Watts.

Holland’s excitement about this fresh collaboration is clear. “I’m obviously over the moon,” he said. “It feels like a new chapter.”

THE FILM’S BUDGET

Previous Spider-Man films have cost hundreds of millions of dollars, although the exact budget hasn’t been announced yet.

If converted to South African Rand, that typically reflects budgets exceeding R2 billion.

The guarantee of spectacular settings and practical effects should make Spider-Man: Brand New Day well worth the wait.

TOM HOLLAND AND CLASSIC FILMMAKING

Tom Holland’s comments highlight a hopeful trend back to classic filmmaking values, real locations, genuine atmosphere, and heartfelt creativity.

This means a more thrilling and authentic Spider-Man adventure is on its way.

Tom Holland’s warmth in returning to the role adds a personal touch, making this new chapter feel like catching up with an old friend.
