Titus – What Barker Told Me

Stellenbosch’s rising star Devin Titus has shared what coach Steve Barker told him prior to selecting him for the first DStv Premiership game of the season.

The 22-year-old starred for Stellies’ Diski team last season as they won the DStv Diski Challenge league, and also made headlines during their recent tour to the UK where he scored five goals in two games in the NextGen Cup, including a hat-trick in the 7-2 win over Leicester City in the final.

Titus, who has featured in all three first team games so far this season, starting two, was speaking to Lethabo Kganyago in the latest iDiski Times newspaper.

“Obviously, it came with pressure, but the coach told me before the game,” Titus told iDiski Times.

“When he gave out the team, he was like, ‘Devin, do what you did in the UK. Do what you did all season last season for Diski because that is why we are giving you this opportunity.’

“Now I took that with pride because, you know, I worked hard for all these things. So I don’t expect anything less, but obviously, I have to work hard and I have to hold myself accountable for the things I do.

“At the end of the day, I felt like I deserved it, but nothing in life comes easy, you know.”
