Tinkler On Chiefs – The Rules Are The Rules

Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler has insisted the rules cannot be bended for Kaizer Chiefs, amid the lingering case over their postponed December fixture.

Chiefs’ match against City is one of the two games that the Glamour Boys didn’t honour after a serious Covid-19 outbreak at Naturena – the other being against Golden Arrows.

The Premier Soccer League dismissed Chiefs request to postpone the games – a decision which Amakhosi took to the arbitrator who ruled in their favour and stated they should be replayed.

However, the PSL executive has now taken that decision to the High Court, where the case is currently sitting after both parties were served papers.

The situation will have an impact on the top four and top two race, with Tinkler’s side currently level on points with Chiefs.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s match against Royal AM, Tinkler expressed his frustrations that the case is taking so long to be resolved and insisted the league’s rules should be applied to any team.

“For us first and foremost, the win, trying to get the fifth win in a row (against Royal AM) is the most important factor,” Tinkler said at the pre-match press conference.

“Second factor is do we get the points, don’t we get the points against Chiefs? That’s still all up in the air, which I think is absolutely ridiculous that this hasn’t been resolved.”

Tinkler said he found it ridiculous that the rules have not been consistent with regards to this situation.

“Remember the rules are the rules, can’t be rules for different fools?” he continued.

“So the rules were like that with Cape Umoya, the rules were like that for Sekhukhune, so why is it different to Kaizer Chiefs?

“So I’ve heard rumours about us having to go and play the game in case, I mean that just doesn’t make any sense, in my opinion.”
