Tinkler Makes Bold Promise Ahead Of Pirates Game

Cape Town City head coach Eric Tinkler has promised to take the game to Orlando Pirates ahead of their massive clash this weekend.

Pirates have won four league matches in a row and that has put them in the driving seat to finish second on the log and qualify for the CAF Champions League.

City had their own outside chances of making a late push for second place but three draws in their last three DStv Premiership games, including their last-minute 2-2 against AmaZulu FC, have seen them fallen off the pace.

Tinkler emphasized that they not going to sit back and play on a counterattack, they will play their brand of football. City last lost a league match in February when they lost to Supersport United by 2-0.

“We have a difficult away trip against Orlando Pirates this weekend. They’re a team that is in currently in very, very good form and obviously, they’re looking to try and finish in that top two position,” Tinkler said.

“So we’re going to have to apply ourselves extremely well against them. But we got to go there and play without any fear. Play with a lot of confidence and a lot of belief in ourselves.

“The home game against them, we didn’t start well, we got better as the game went on, and we ended up winning that, so we got to go in with that same mentality that we can beat them.

“And we’re down to the last five games of the season and we want to try and finish as high as we possibly can in the league. So we need to obviously go there and look to collect points.

“You’re not going to sit and try and play on the counter. That’s not the way we play as Cape Town City.

“So we’re gonna go there, try and play a good brand of football, put them under as much pressure as we possibly can. But know that you’re coming up against a very, very difficult side.“
