Tinkler – I’m Extremely Disappointed

Cape Town City head coach Eric Tinkler was not pleased after his team conceded at the death as Marumo Gallants beat them 2-1 in Saturday’s DStv Premiership fixture.

Ranga Chivaviro grabbed a stoppage-time winner for Dan Malesela’s team, having also put Gallants ahead in the first half.

But City came back in the second half, with Wayde Lekay grabbing an equaliser, but City weren’t able to manage the game according to Tinkler.

When asked by iDiski Times‘ Lethabo Kganyago about losing it at the death, Tinkler said he was very disappointed.

“I’m extremely disappointed,” Tinkler told iDiski Times.

“We should have managed that second half a lot better. You had a dismal first half to be brutally honest, and deserve to find yourself 1-0 down in my opinion, but how you concede that goal is poor and unacceptable.

“You respond well in the second half, you come back, and then you throw it away in the last minute of the game.

“Those things, I can warn them, but they’re things you’ve got to be able to assess on the field. So I’m extremely disappointed how we ended up losing this game.”

It was City’s second defeat in three games, having also conceded in the dying minutes against Richards Bay, before bouncing back with a home win against Chippa United mid-week. But Tinkler said that inconsistency was frustrating.

“Precisely,” Tinkler continued.

“So you can’t be winning one week then not getting a result the next week, the mindset has to change from everyone.”

City are back in action on Wednesday when they host USM Algiers in the CAF Confederation Cup.
