Thuli Phongolo And Slender Da Dancing DJ Rebrand
South African actress and DJ Thuli Phongolo, along with Sithabile Zungu, also known as Slender Da Dancing DJ, have joined forces to create the musical duo 2 Faced. This exciting collaboration aims to bridge the gap between two distinct musical genres – amapiano and Gqom.
Thuli Phongolo describes 2 Faced as a musical journey inspired by the Janus concept. In ancient Roman mythology, Janus, the god of beginnings and transitions, gazed in opposite directions, symbolizing the duality of time, doorways, and endings. Drawing inspiration from this symbolism, 2 Faced brings together the contrasting sounds of amapiano and Gqom in a harmonious fusion.
Amapiano, with its infectious beats and catchy melodies, has taken the South African music scene by storm in recent years. Originating from the townships of Gauteng, amapiano has become a popular genre known for its groovy rhythms and soulful vocals. On the other hand, Gqom is a genre that emerged from the streets of Durban, characterized by its raw energy, heavy basslines, and distinctive percussion.
Their debut performance was at the Macufe Music Festival, 2 Faced showcased their seamless fusion of Amapiano beats and rhythms with the raw energy of Gqom.
