Tragedy on N4: Three killed in Mpumalanga Crash

  • Three people died in a crash involving a truck and a light motor vehicle on the N4 near Mbombela, Mpumalanga, early Saturday morning.
  • One person sustained serious injuries, while the truck driver was unharmed.
  • Authorities are still investigating the cause and have urged caution in the high-risk area.

Three people lost their lives in a tragic road accident involving a light motor vehicle and an abnormal load truck on the N4 toll route between Matsulu and Mbombela, Mpumalanga, early Saturday morning.

According to the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety and Liaison, the crash occurred just before 6 a.m.

The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Department spokesperson Moeti Mmusi confirmed that three passengers died at the scene, while a fourth was critically injured and rushed to hospital.

“Three of the passengers perished on the scene while the fourth passenger suffered severe injuries and rushed to the hospital. The driver of the truck escaped unharmed”.

Emergency personnel remained on-site for several hours, managing the scene and assisting with traffic flow.

Motorists have been urged to exercise caution when driving through the area, which is considered a high-accident zone.
