Three GOALS in three matches

Relebohile Mofokeng is off to a fantastic start in 2026, having scored three goals and provided three assists in his last three matches.

The 21-year-old had a slow start to the 2025/26 season due to an injury that affected his progress. Upon his return, the skilful winger inspired the Buccaneers to their second trophy by scoring in the final of the Telkom Knockout in December.

Mofokeng was also part of the Bafana Bafana team that participated in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Although he played only two matches, he showcased his talent against Cameroon in the round of 16. Unfortunately, his team was eliminated in the knockout stages.

Feeling disappointed in himself for not converting against the Indomitable Lions, Mofokeng has recharged during the AFCON break and appears to be a different player now. In his last three matches, he has netted three goals and registered three assists.

Is Relebohile Mofokeng in contention for the Player of the Season award?

It’s still early to determine, but indications suggest he may compete for the accolade at the end of the season. So far, no clear favourites have emerged for the award. With February and March promising exciting matches, new top contenders are likely to arise.

Currently, the Buccaneers sit at the top of the Betway Premiership with 38 points after 16 matches, leading second-place Mamelodi Sundowns by six points, although the Tshwane giants have a game in hand.

All eyes will be on Relebohile Mofokeng this Wednesday as he aims to score in four consecutive matches. Against Marumo Gallants, he was awarded Man of the Match after inspiring the team to a 3-0 win on Saturday.

The last time the Pirates faced the Downs at the FNB Stadium, the 21-year-old scored a brace and helped his side secure a 2-1 victory.

How good has Rele been in 2026?
