Kaizer Chiefs will undoubtedly look to put the past season behind them, as they swiftly began their off field preparations for the next.

Part of Chiefs’ mission will be to revamp their playing personnel once again, with many incomings as well as outgoings expected at Naturena.

Chiefs are believed to have already started their recruitment drive ahead of the next season, reportedly already signing three players. Amakhosi have already confirmed the signing of SuperSport United centre back Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, while also being thought to have signed Mduduzi Mdantsane and Given Msimango.

At the end of the previous season, Chiefs made a massive clear out, getting rid of some experienced players, some of which had not been able to lead Amakhosi to any silverware during their lengthy stays at the club. It is expected that they will also undergo a similar exodus that could see several players forced through the exit door.

A lot of the players that were released by Chiefs were over 30-years-old with the majority never winning a trophy while at the club. Besides the Bernard Parker, the likes of Daniel Cardoso, Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Leonardo Castro and Daniel Akpeyi had never touched any silverware during their careers at the club.
Lesako and Matsheke to return to Chiefs
But it wasn’t just the elder players that were discarded by the club, but some of the younger brigade too. That group included three players from the academy in Lebohang Lesako and Darrel Matsheke. The two experienced two contrasting fortunes while on loan from Chiefs to Swallows during last season.

Matsheke featured 19 times in the Dube Birds midfield, while Lesako struggled to make any impact at Swallows, only featuring twice for the Soweto giants. The duo are now expected to return to Chiefs, following the conclusion of that temporary spell. But with the two being 23 and 24 years old respectively, and having already been sent on various loan spells, they are now expected to be released by Amakhosi.

Joining them on a return will be Keletso Sifama, who helped Casric Stars get into a playoff position. With Chiefs in desperate need for a striker, it remains to be seen if the now 20-year-old will be retained after scoring just 1 goal in eight appearances this season.
