Som United chairman Simon Mochocho was left disappointed after coach Kgoloko Thobejane resigned as the side’s head coach this week.
Mochocho says the coach was not happy with the appointment of new assistant coach Lebogang Mothibantwa.
United are currently second in the ABC Motsepe League in North West with 21 points and while Mochocho says they were confident the former Baroka FC mentor would help them win the league, he admitted he couldn’t talk Thobejane into staying.
“What happened is that Thobejane was our head coach and he was working alone. We appointed an assistant coach, Lebogang Mothibantwa, so Thobejane said he can’t work with Lebogang and he resigned,” Mochocho told iDiski Times.
“We didn’t fire him, he is the one who resigned. I don’t know what his issue is with Lebogang Mothibantwa. We are number two on the log, so I was disappointed when he left. I tried to speak to him but he said he can’t work with Lebogang.
“What he [Thobejane] said to me is that Lebogang is not a good coach, he swears a lot and he is disruptive. That’s what he said and I asked him to give him [Mothibantwa] a chance.
“So even though the players loved him, he is a good coach who motivated them, they were disappointed. I’m the one who brought him here, he is a good coach.
“There was a time he was fighting with Baroka I took him to help me in the Castle league and he helped me. I think we will work together in the future and currently, there are clubs calling me because they want him.”
Mothibantwa together with former University of Pretoria player Morgan Van Rooyen will take charge of the third-tier side for the remainder of the season.
