Former Kaizer Chiefs defence stalwart Thomas Sweswe believes Khama Billiat’s return to form is beyond coaching and suggests his teammates can revive his fortunes.
He has called on Amakhosi players to unite and rally the out-of-form attacker, whom he believes could be the key to unlocking their problems.
The former Zimbabwe international feels the players have rather let Billiat down in his bid to get his mojo back.
“It’s beyond coaches. Players must push him [Billiat] hard, and help to raise his game. I think it’s at this point when he needs his teammates to lift up his spirit,” Sweswe told FARPost.
“If you look at it, the team has a number of new players, and it’s obviously taking time for all of them to gel. But when it comes to supporting each other, I think it’s supposed to be natural.
“Back then, when one of us struggled, we worked hard to push him ahead at all levels because we knew that we needed each other.
‘BILLIAT MAKES CHIEFS BUZZ’
“It’s clear that when Billiat struggles, the team also struggles. He makes the team buzz in some way and still has what it takes to be the team’s firepower.
“He just needs one game to turn around his fortunes because he still has a lot to offer, and Arthur [Zwane] knows it.”
As the 32-year-old struggles, Amakhosi have also been blowing hot and cold with 11 points out of a possible 24 points.
They are ninth on the log standings, with eight points separating them from leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
And Sweswe is convinced that a motivated Billiat is the last piece to their puzzle if he regains form.
Billiat missed the recent games due to injury; however, he will hope to shrug off the pressure that has already mounted on him for failing to score in the six games he has played.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns attacker is in his fifth season at Naturena but has remained subject to massive criticism that he has failed to justify why he is the highest-paid player at the club.
At Sundowns, though, he won big at a personal level plus seven major trophies with the club.
He was also named the 2016 PSL player of the year, but so far, he has not won anything with Chiefs.
