The Players Who Were Dropped From The Bafana Squad

After Hugo Broos has rung the changes in his latest Bafana Bafana squad, here are the 17 players who missed out in comparison to his previous preliminary squad.

Broos announced his provisional squad to face Guinea and France on 25 and 28 March, calling up eight new players, including the likes of Lyle Lakay, Khuliso Mudau and Bandile Shandu.

The 69-year-old later explained that he wants to test some new faces because he saw the team struggled in the final FIFA World Cup qualifier against Ghana.

He also indicated that he might return to a more tested and tried squad once the qualifiers for the African Cup of Nations will start, meaning some of the dropped players might return.

However, the list – in comparison to the preliminary squad ahead of the Zimbabwe and Ghana qualifiers – is quite long.

Here you can see the 17 players who were dropped by Broos:

Oscarine Masuluke (Baroka FC)*

Luke Fleurs (SuperSport United)*

Njabulo Blom (Kaizer Chiefs)

Njabulo Ngcobo (Kaizer Chiefs)

S’fiso Hlanti (Kaizer Chiefs)

Thapelo Morena (Mamelodi Sundowns)*

Thibang Phete (Belenenses)

Tercious Malepe (AmaZulu FC)*

Thabani Zuke (Golden Arrows)

Mothobi Mvala (Mamelodi Sundowns)*

Jesse Donn (SuperSport United)*

Sphelele Sithole (Belenenses)

Yusuf Maart (Sekhukhune)

Siyethemba Sithebe (AmaZulu FC)*

Nqobeko Dlamini (Golden Arrows)*

Luther Singh (Copenhagen FC)*

Tshegofatso Mabasa (Orlando Pirates)*

*These players had already been cut from the provisional squad and didn’t make Broo’s final selection ahead of the Zimbabwe and Ghana qualifiers.
