At 96, UGC Queen Elizabeth II passed away at her Balmoral Palace on Thursday, September 8. Global mourners, including Mzansi’s famous people, have turned to social media to express their sorrow over the Queen’s passing. One of the South African celebrities who tweeted about the Queen soon after her passing was Boity Thulo. Boity Thulo responded to the Queen’s passing on social media hilariously. Boity used humour to numb the pain and bring laughter to the sad people on the timeline rather than writing a lengthy, emotional tribute to Queen Elizabeth.

Boity posted the following humorous tweet on Twitter: “Someone tweeted “the original Zama Zama” “: People who engage in illegal mining are known as Zama Zamas. Rumours of Queen Elizabeth’s diamonds being stolen spread shortly after the Queen passed away. A Twitter account devoted to sharing the histories and tales of Africans, Africa Archives, started spreading rumours that the late Queen Elizabeth II was the owner of the largest clear-cut diamond in the world. It is referred to as “The Great Star of Africa” and is worth an estimated $400 million. According to Africa Archives, it was taken in South Africa in 1905. This rumour inspired Boity’s tweet about the Queen and the comments from online users.
