The one factor to determine Gallants’ transfer business in January

Marumo Gallants head coach Dan ‘Dance’ Malesela has revealed the one factor that will determine his side’s transfer business in January.

The Limpopo-based outfit mentor reckons that injuries have been a huge challenge to his team this campaign with many of their players sustaining long-term injuries.

Gallants captain Lehlogonolo Nonyane, Ayanda Nkili, and Sibusiso Kumalo are out injured.

And that has somehow hampered the progress of the team in the South African football top flight despite their good run in the CAF Confederation Cup tournament.

The injuries made the club to struggle to win matches as they have only registered two wins from the 12 games they have played.

So far, Bahlabane Ba Ntwa are currently placed 11th on the DStv Premiership log standings with 13 points after 12 outings.

Malesela told FARPost that the team might decide to make a few additions during the January transfer business in 2023 if there are some good players available that he feels may add value to his side.

“Yes, we may sign players if there are people available to sign. I hope we get the right people in the right places, but I have a few players on injury and they have been on long-term injuries,” the 57-year-old coach told this publication.

“If these players recover, then we don’t have to sign other players.

“Let’s hope we get enough players because injuries have been a challenge. I have got a lot of players but you need quality, not numbers.”

Malesela has managed to do wonders with the club as he orchestrated Gallants’ upturn, having guided them to the Nedbank Cup final last season and finished in 10th position in the DStv Premiership.

In the current campaign, he has led Marumo to the group stage of the Confederation Cup for the first time in the club’s history.

The well-travelled mentor will be expected to continue to do his magic with the team when they return from the FIFA break due to the ongoing World Cup in Qatar.

Marumo will return to action on Friday, 30 December against SuperSport United in a league clash away from home.
