Spings On Saturday 05 November 2022, members of the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) Social Crime Prevention Unit based in the eastern region, took to the streets of Daggafontein near Struisbult in Springs in an awareness campaign ahead of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
The main purpose of the operation was to educate members of the community, on violence against women and children, as the December festive season approaches.
In an ongoing operation, the EMPD educated the community on how such crimes could be reported and how assistance could be offered to the victims of such wrongdoings. Furthermore, on Sunday 06 November 2022, the community members of Skoon Plaas informal settlement near Gold One Mining, at Dersley Park in Springs became beneficiaries of information on safety, with door-to-door awareness and enforcement of municipal by-laws.
As the EMPD, it has been noted that there are a lot of challenges within the community, especially during the festive season. Awareness campaigns like these would help to curb, such trials.
