‘The current situation at Chiefs is abnormal’ – Amakhosi legend

Kaizer Chiefs legend Johannes ‘Bricks’ Mudau has called the current situation at the club ‘abnormal’.

Amakhosi have lost three consecutive league games and are currently in sixth place in the Betway Premiership.

In the past 11 years, the Soweto giants have only won one trophy, which was the Nedbank Cup.

Mudau feels there are underlying issues hindering Chiefs from progression.

Chiefs legend wants urgent changes

“Teams do experience periods of poor form occasionally, but the current situation at Chiefs is abnormal. They require an effective leader,” Mudau told KickOff.

“There is likely a deeper underlying issue. The club has been re-evaluating strategies over the years; now, a change is urgently needed.

“It appears his children are making the decisions, and they may not be making optimal choices. That is my opinion. When Bra K (Kaizer Motaung) presided over the club, the team was more successful. There appear to be systemic issues. He must assume control of the current situation,” he added.

The Chiefs legend feels the club has not yielded positive results since Motaung’s children took over.

“Chiefs are experiencing difficulties. Bra K envisioned a future for this club when he established it, but now his children are trying too hard to emulate his success, which is not yielding positive results,” Mudau said.

Another Chiefs legend, Brian Baloyi, was also critical of his former club. He questioned the constant changes to the starting line-up, suggesting the instability points to deeper coaching issues at the club.

“The co-coaches must stop being secretive; they must tell us if these changes are injury-forced or if it is just changes. Are they trying to find something?” he said.

“Clearly, this is an amateur team. This is a Philly’s Games team, we can’t call this a professional team if they haven’t had the same starting lineup.”

Can Chiefs bounce back?
