Thanda Choir founding members have announced an immediate breakaway from their managers, after an eye opening report by Carte Blanche exposing the exploitation that has been going on for years.
After the Carte Blanche exposé, the choir which is originally from Makhaza, issued a statement citing that they are taking a bold step towards independence.

“After years of being exploited and recently cast out of the very ensemble that they founded by outside managers, the founding members are now fully reclaiming their future,” read the statement.
Thanda Choir confirmed that they are no longer affiliated with Up Next Studios, Julio Teixeira, Luke Bernhadi, Asavela Mpayipheli and Zikhona Maphisa.
“All prior bookings and agreements with these individuals/agencies are now void. We, the founding members stand together to protect the legacy we started and built to where it is,” they penned.
They also shared that they are seeking legal assistance to guide them as they navigate their journey. “We urgently request assistance from lawyers who can help us secure these rights and ensure fair treatment,” they added.

During the Carte Blanche exposé, broadcaster Claire Mawisa revealed to one of the choir members that Julio and Luke charge R40 000 for a 45 minute performance for the Thanda Choir. The emotional choir member shared that they do not know anything, they only go to rehearsals and are paid R400 and with food parcels.

She also sat down with the Thanda Choir managers, asking them what the money is spent on. They shared that the money made from choir performances goes towards the organisation. When they were asked to share their finances, they said they had signed an NDA form which prevents them from doing so.
