  • Thailand’s Queen Mother Sirikit has passed away at the age of 93.
  • Her death has prompted national mourning and tributes for her lifelong dedication to the Thai people.
  • King Vajiralongkorn has ordered a royal funeral with the highest honors to commemorate her legacy.

Thailand is mourning the loss of the beloved mother of the nation, Her Majesty Queen Mother Sirikit, who passed away on Friday in a hospital following a long-term illness.

Queen Sirikit was the mother of the current King Vajiralongkorn and the wife of Thailand’s longest-reigning monarch. Her passing was announced by the Bureau of the Royal Household.

The tragic news has drawn an outpouring of grief across Thailand and beyond, as tributes continue to pour in for the late Queen, whose life was dedicated to public service, environmental stewardship, and the welfare of her people.

According to media reports, Queen Sirikit died at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital in Bangkok, where she had been receiving continuous medical care since 2019.

She reportedly contracted a bloodstream infection, medically known as sepsis, on October 17, 2025. Despite the best efforts of her medical team, her condition gradually worsened, and she passed away at 9:21 p.m., as reported by media outlets.

Her death marks the end of an era for Thailand’s Chakri dynasty and the nation as a whole.

King Maha Vajiralongkorn, her only son and the current monarch, has decreed that Queen Sirikit be given a royal funeral with the highest honors. Her remains will be enshrined at the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall within the Grand Palace in Bangkok.

Her death has been described as a huge loss for the country.
