Ten players and one official for Malawi’s top-flight league team Dedza Dynamos were involved in a road accident on Friday.

Dedza general secretary Mavuto Mugode told the media in Malawi that first-choice goalkeeper Donex Dakalira, Hudson Milanzi, Henry Misinjo and an official Bayison Chisasula suffered serious injuries during the accident in the Central Region district of Dedza.

Mugode said the accident happened when a driver of a lorry that had carried the players swerved while trying to avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming car.

“Our players fell from the lorry which they were travelling in. Ten players have been rushed to Kamuzu Central Hospital while the others were treated as outpatients [at Dedza District Hospital],” said Mugode told The Nation newspaper.

Dedza coach Dan Dzinkambani, who was in the front seat of the lorry, also suffered minor injuries and was treated as an outpatient.

“I went to the hospital and I was treated as an outpatient. However, I am feeling chest and knee pains so I am going back to the hospital,” Dzinkambani told FARPost.

Super League of Malawi has since postponed the TNM Super League game between Dynamos and Sable Farming FC scheduled for tomorrow.

Dedza are a newly-promoted Super League team and lie on position 10 with 12 points from 10 games whereas fellow rookies, Sable, anchor the 16-member log table on six points.
