  • The suspect faces charges of human trafficking and immigration violations, with a scheduled appearance at the Booysens Magistrates Court.

A multi-agency operation involving Fox Security, the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD), SAPS Mondeor, and the Hawks has led to the rescue of ten teenage boys and the arrest of a 47-year-old foreign national in Johannesburg.

The incident unfolded in Mulbarton when JMPD officers on patrol were alerted to a suspicious scene on Broad Street. Witnesses pointed out a group of eight teenagers walking on foot while half-naked.

Upon further investigation, the officers determined that the youths were foreign nationals and were unable to speak English.

During the initial enquiry, police learned that two other boys had already been removed from the scene in a blue Volkswagen Jetta. Authorities soon intercepted the vehicle, but the driver attempted to evade capture, leading to a high-speed pursuit.

The chase concluded on Commissioner Street in the Johannesburg Central Business District, where the suspect was apprehended and the two remaining teenagers were safely recovered.

The 47-year-old suspect is currently being held on charges of suspected human trafficking and being an illegal immigrant. He is scheduled to make his first appearance at the Booysens Magistrates Court on Thursday, 8 January 2026.

Major General Ebrahim Kadwa, the Gauteng Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, commended the swift and collaborative response of the various units.

He noted that such multi-disciplinary efforts are vital in the ongoing battle against human trafficking within the province. Investigations into the matter are continuing.
