Tembo On Mbule & Ref Rant

SuperSport United coach Kaitano Tembo has revealed what he told the referee at half-time against Orlando Pirates and also explained why Sipho Mbule didn’t make his squad.

The 51-year-old saw his side lose 3-2 at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday night, despite racing to a two-goal lead inside 20 minutes.

However, two penalties just before half-time turned the game in Pirates favour, with Tembo being visibly upset at the break and being pictured arguing with the referee.

“We just went to the referee and I said to him ‘I’d like you to watch the second penalty,” he said after the game.

“’I might be wrong but go and watch and see,’ that’s what I said to him.”

Meanwhile, Tembo also confirmed that Mbule, who has been closely linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs, had a knock and couldn’t make the team.

“Sipho Mbule, I think we’ve said it many times, Sipho is ok, he’s had a slight knock in training. That’s why he was not in the team,” he added.

“He was in the team when we played Platinum City the last.”

SuperSport refused to let Mbule leave in the January transfer window, with CEO Stan Matthews indicating the player first needs to show more commitment to his current club.

However, he’s only made one appearance of the bench against AmaZulu since the turn of the year.
