Tembo Expresses Concern Over International Break

Sekhukhune United coach Kaitano Tembo says the international break may not necessarily be beneficial for his side.

United have had a challenging start to the 2022/23 season and find themselves second from on the log with seven points from eight matches. Tembo’s charges have been guilty of not burying their chances on many occasions.

The coach believes among some of the factors that have also contributed to Babina Noko’s campaign so far, is travelling. Now with four of his players going on international duty this week, Tembo spoke about the probabilities of the players either returning rejuvenated or fatigued.

“At the same time, it is also another travelling because when they come back, they wouldn’t have had the rest like the rest of the guys that are staying behind,” said Tembo.

“So, it might be another issue as well because we’ve got about four players who are travelling, [Roderick] Kabwe, Toaster [Nsabata], Nyiko Mobbie as well as [Badra Ali[ Sangare. They are all going away with their national teams, which is very good for the club but at the same time with where we are, we would have wanted players to rest.”

Following the 1-1 league draw with Stellenbosch, Steve Barker praised United saying their current log position is not a true reflection of their quality. Tembo agreed with his competitor saying it is evident in how the Limpopo side dominates matches.

“I think all the teams that we played against can attest to that because we have dominated most of the games that we have played. We can’t put the ball in the back of the net, we can’t score,” Tembo concluded.

Despite the log position, and wasted chances the coach added that he would be more worried if his players weren’t creating chances at all.
