Bafana Bafana star Teboho Mokoena

Teboho Mokoena is facing criticism after a video showing him using his phone while driving made rounds on social media, raising concerns about road safety and responsibility.

The clip, which surfaced on X on Monday, 6 April 2026, captures the Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana midfielder seemingly recording content while behind the wheel.

In the footage, Mokoena appears focused on his phone camera as he drives, a moment that quickly drew attention online.

The video was initially shared by a user identified as @The King of Trolls, who criticised the footballer’s actions, suggesting he was putting himself at risk for the sake of content creation.

“The ever-smiling Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana midfielder is enjoying his ride while putting his life in danger because of content creation,” the post read.

As the clip gained traction, reactions from South Africans were divided, though many expressed concern over the dangers of using a phone while driving, especially given Mokoena’s status as a public figure.

“This is reckless and dangerous,” wrote @NhlanhlaNkosi, while @mabetie9405 added, “Phone and driving doesn’t go along.”

Others highlighted the influence he holds as a role model, with @StHonorable commenting, “Imagine, the whole man whom we trust is busy risking his life,” and @WitOnTheWire warning, “They forget they are role models mxm #arrivealive.”
