A taxi owner was shot and killed at the Goldreich Street taxi rank in Hillbrow on Wednesday afternoon.

Another person was seriously injured and was being treated by paramedics.

When the Scrolla.Africa team arrived at the scene, several police officers had cordoned off the area, and paramedics were assisting the injured person.

Witnesses living in nearby flats on the corner of Claim and Goldreich streets said they saw a red car pull up next to a vehicle from the Alexandra Taxi Association.

“Several shots were fired. One of the three people in the vehicle managed to open the door and escape the bullets,” said a witness.

A source at the scene said the man who escaped looked shaken.

The shooting happened just a week after another taxi owner from the Alexandra Taxi Association was shot and killed in Balfour Park.
