Tau’s Agent Breaks Silence On Ahly Future

The agent of Percy Tau has opened up on his future at Al Ahly after Bafana Bafana boss Hugo Broos said it’s imperative he gets game time to return to the national team.

Tau, 28, is widely considered as the most talented forward in South African football at present but has endured a tumultuous journey at Ahly, more so since the sudden exit of former head coach Pitso Mosimane, who has since joined Al Ahli i Saudi Arabia.

Reports emerged in local media that his injury issues saw the Red Devils terminate his contract and while that was quickly dismissed, and indications are the new coach Marcel Koller will offer the forward a chance, Broos was clear in his stance.

“I think if you put Percy [against Angola], he plays half an hour, Percy didn’t play for four months then you want him to play a game like this? It’s impossible,” Broos said.

“It’s impossible for him, he doesn’t have the physical [capacity] to play games like these and as I said before the games I played, I pray that Percy will play somewhere, in Al Ahly or whatever.

“So he can regain the tempo of the games that he’s used to playing. Don’t think that I don’t know the qualities of Tau and that I don’t want to take him. But who are we helping [selecting] him now, not the team and not himself. So you can’t do that for the moment.

“Let’s hope now after New Year, or now as the competition keeps playing in Egypt, he can be ready in March, it can be something extra for our team, certainly.”

Tau’s representative Mmatsatsi Sefalafala has echoed the sentiments of the Club of the Century of the last few months stating her client is happy to remain at the Cairo giants.

“Percy is very much contracted to Al Ahly,” Sefalafala told KickOff.

“He will remain with the club. He is very happy, as you have seen on various social media platforms. He is very happy, and very content where he is.

“There will always be offers, as it depends on what he wants at the end of the day, and what he wants now is to remain focused.

“He is still very much contracted to Al Ahly, so that is the case for now.”
