Bafana Bafana winger Percy Tau has insisted he’d take another shot at playing in Europe, if a serious offer would arrive.
Tau, 29, was arguably Al Ahly’s most important player in their CAF Champions League-winning campaign, contributing to 10 goals after scoring five himself and setting up five more.
No other player was involved in more goals in Africa’s elite club competition and his return to form has also revived interest in his services from South Africa and abroad.
His former side RSC Anderlecht are said to be monitoring the situation, while Eredivisie side Utrecht, Danish giants Brondby IF and Mamelodi Sundowns have followed it closely, as per Farpost.
With just one year left on his contract, Tau could sign a pre-contract with any interested club in January, when he will likely play at next year’s Africa Cup of Nations – but he insisted the talk is normal, however, if a good offer comes he’d consider going back to Europe.
“There will always be talks around that,” he said on Friday.
“If the opportunity comes to go back to Europe I’ll always take it. But I’m still ok at Al Ahly.”
Tau also explained how new Al Ahly coach Marcel Koller got the best out of his this season after he previously struggled with injuries.
“When the coach came I was injured, so we didn’t spend much time,” he explained.
“When I started doing my rehab and being on the pitch, he started talking to me who I was as a person, he wanted to know me as a person before as a player.
“Once we got that out of the way, he started telling me where wants me, he started me as a striker or as a No. 10 in most games. Then he realised I was able to play in most [attacking] positions, and he choose that I was spending most of the time on the sides, I was ok there.
“Then he started seeing the rewards, the hard work I put in the game and how I could be of use to him.

“He put me in a program to do my rehab, it was a special program from the technical team to not come too early but also not come back too late.”
Tau has won five trophies with Al Ahly, two Egyptian Super Cups, one Egyptian Cup, one CAF Super Cup and one CAF Champions League.
