Tanzanian President appoints her daughter and son-in-law in cabinet reshuffle

  • President Samia Suluhu Hassan appointed her daughter, Wanu Hafidh Ameir, as Deputy Education Minister, and her son-in-law, Mohammed Mchengerwa, as Health Minister.
  • The reshuffle resulted in a new 27-member cabinet for the Tanzanian government.
  • Former President Jakaya Kikwete’s son, Ridhwani Kikwete, was also named as a Minister in the Presidency.

Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan has made headlines following a significant cabinet reshuffle announced on 17 November 2025, which saw key family members appointed to prominent ministerial posts.

The restructuring of the government resulted in a new 27-member cabinet featuring both the President’s daughter and her son-in-law in leadership positions.

President Hassan appointed her daughter, Wanu Hafidh Ameir, to the role of Deputy Minister for Education.

Simultaneously, her son-in-law, Mohammed Mchengerwa, who is married to Wanu Hafidh Ameir, who was appointed as the new Minister for Health.

Mchengerwa had previously served in various ministerial capacities before this latest promotion.

In addition to the family appointments, the reshuffle also brought a high-profile political figure into the President’s inner circle.

Ridhwani Kikwete, the son of former President Jakaya Kikwete, was named as a Minister in the Presidency, strengthening ties between the current administration and the country’s former political leadership.
