India’s new head coach Gautam Gambhir and T20 skipper Suryakumar Yadav picked up a series win over Sri Lanka to kick off their tenures as the new leaders of the men in blue.
Following their World Cup final triumph over South Africa last month, Rahul Dravid stepped down as coach and Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from the short format.
And just as the former captain arrived in Sri Lanka to prepare for the ODI series, the young guns got the job done in the T20s under new coach Gambhir.
It was two convincing wins in two days in Pallekele for the Indians as Yadav put up a man of the match winning knock to lead his side to victory in the first T20 on Saturday before using his spinners wisely in the rain affected second game on Sunday.
With the series now in the bag, Gambhir will have a chance to experiment with the starting eleven with a whitewash on the cards in the final T20 on Tuesday.
Alongside Rohit, star man Virat Kohli and IPL winning skipper Shreyas Iyer will also rejoin the squad for the ODI series which will commence on Friday.
