  • Five male bodies were discovered at an open-cast mine in Tlhatlaganyane village, North West, after a fatal shooting.
  • Police have deployed a multi-disciplinary team to investigate the killings and track down those responsible.
  • Authorities say while the area is known for illegal mining, it is too early to confirm whether the murders are linked to rival mining operations.

Five male bodies have been discovered at an open-cast mine in Tlhatlaganyane village, North West, following a fatal shooting incident on Monday afternoon.

Police confirmed that a multi-disciplinary team is currently on the scene to collect evidence and gather information that could help establish the motive behind the killings and identify the perpetrators.

Authorities noted that the area is notorious for illegal mining activities. However, at this stage, it cannot be confirmed or ruled out whether the murders are linked to rival mining operations.

Police said an extensive investigation will be conducted to ensure that those responsible are identified and brought to justice.

All leads and clues will be followed, including confirming the identities of the deceased and the reasons for their presence at the site before they were killed.
