A 32-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the deadly shooting at KwaNdelu Shisanyama in Lwandle, Strand, where 11 people were killed and 10 others injured.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Monday, 12 October 2026.

According to News24, the suspect was traced to an address in Lwandle and arrested on Friday, 9 October, following an investigation into the September attack.

He faces 11 counts of murder and 10 counts of attempted murder and was expected to appear in the Strand Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Police Seize Firearm During Arrest

Western Cape police spokesperson Colonel André Traut confirmed that officers recovered a Norinco firearm and six cartridges during the operation.

News24 reported that preliminary police investigations indicated the firearm belonged to a deceased person and had not previously been reported stolen or robbed.

The weapon and ammunition were confiscated for forensic analysis.

Police are conducting ballistic examinations to establish whether the firearm was used in the Lwandle shooting or other criminal incidents.

Deadly Attack at Lwandle Shisanyama

The shooting occurred during the early hours of Sunday, 27 September, when three unidentified gunmen opened fire on patrons.

In its initial statement, SAPS confirmed that five people died at the scene and another five later succumbed to their injuries.

An additional death subsequently brought the reported toll to 11.

Western Cape Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Sizakhele Dyantyi established a multidisciplinary investigation team led by serious violent crime detectives following the attack.

Suspect Faces Additional Murder Charges

News24 further reported that the suspect faces charges connected to another shooting in Lwandle in July 2026.

According to Traut, three people were killed and four others injured when two armed men allegedly opened fire on people playing music in parked vehicles.

The accused faces another three counts of murder and four counts of attempted murder, alongside charges involving illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Across both incidents, he faces 14 murder counts and 14 attempted murder counts.

Investigators are continuing their efforts to identify other possible suspects.

The accused remains presumed innocent until proven guilty.
