SuperSport Move To Sixth After Beating Maritzburg

SuperSport United have moved to sixth on the DStv Premiership table following a 2-1 victory over Maritzburg United at Harry Gwala Stadium on Friday.

Goals by defenders Thatayaone Ditlhokwe and Onismor Bhasera were enough to see SuperSport picked their second league win on the bounce.

For Maritzburg, they got the goal from Genino Palace, as they suffered a first home defeat this season.

The Team of Choice, just like SuperSport, were looking to get their second win on the bounce, after beating Orlando Pirates last weekend.

They had chances to win the game, as striker Amadou Soukouna dragged his shot wide early in the first half, leaving the vibrant crowd holding its hairs. Tumelo Njoti also failed to get a contact to beat George Chigova from close range after a cross by Soukouna.

SuperSport then had a penalty shout, with Iqraam Rayners appeared to have been pushed down by Brian Hlongwa but referee Moreki Lekwape waved away.

Maritzburg, who knew that a win tonight was going to take them to fourth, created chances further and Tshidiso Monamodi stung the gloves of Chigovoa in the 52nd minute, who palmed the ball away for corner.

However, SuperSport were the first to get their name in the scoreboard in the 56th minute. Ditlhokwe was unmarked inside the box, cleverly knocking the ball down to beat King Ndlovu.

The celebrations though from SuperSport were cut short a minute later. Hunt’s old boy Rowan Human lofted a long ball to Palace who flicked the ball over Chigova, who was unfortunate to cut the danger having been forced to come off his line.

But SuperSport captain Onismor Bhasera caught Maritzburg defense unaware in the 74th minute, with a powerful header from Gamphani Lungu’s perfect cross. It was Bhasera’s first goal in two seasons.

In this edition of iDiski Times Grant Margeman talks about his desire to show his worth at SuperSport United and eventually return to claim a spot at Mamelodi Sundowns. Banyana coach Desiree Ellis talks about their preperation for the World Cup and how the WAFCON gold medal has changed everything. There is also a feature putting focus on the Bafana Bafana goalkeeping conundrum. Read this and a whole lot more in the full edition below:
