Sundowns vs Pirates – THREE things to expect

Posted on November 1, 2025

There’s the Premier Soccer League, and then there’s the Mamelodi Sundowns vs Orlando Pirates match.

This afternoon at 15:30, the battle is at the Loftus Versfeld in Tshwane.

ORLANDO PIRATES VISIT MAMELODI SUNDOWNS AT THE LOFTUS VERSFELD

Kabo Yellow still have the MTN8 semi-final heartbreak on their minds, where the Buccaneers edged them out on penalties after a 2–2 aggregate draw. For coach Miguel Cardoso, today is about redemption. For Abdeslam Ouaddou, it’s about sending a message.

Additionally, Pirates have a statement they need to make. It’s a chance to challenge Kabo Yellow’s eight-year grip on the league crown. A win would see the Sea Robbers climb to second, level on points with Sundowns, who’d only stay top on goal difference, but with Pirates holding two games in hand.

THREE THINGS TO EXPECT

A tactical battle with goals to match

Don’t expect to be put to sleep. Sundowns have bagged 17 goals in 10 matches, while Pirates have netted 10 in eight. Both sides love possession, but they know where the net is.

Bathusi Aubaas takes centre stage

With Teboho Mokoena suspended, Bathusi Aubaas is set to anchor the midfield. His job? Keep the ball moving while also keeping tabs on Pirates’ chosen attacking midfielder, whether it is Sipho Mbule or Patrick Maswanganyi.

A full house and fierce atmosphere

The 51,762-seater Loftus Versfeld is officially sold out, confirmed on Tuesday, 28 October.
