Kaizer Chiefs have thrown a spanner in the works for Orlando Pirates in their long-awaited title chase this season.

Lebohang Maboe, Flavio Silva, Mfundo Vilakazi, Siphesihle Ndlovu and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo are all one booking away from a suspension. There are only four matches left of Kaizer Chiefs’ season. The Glamour Boys next meet leaders Sundowns on Wednesday, 6 May at 19:30. The match will be on DStv channel 202.

Who’s leaving Kaizer Chiefs?

According to various reports, as many as seven senior players have their Kaizer Chiefs contracts expiring in June. They are Gaston Sirino, Khanyisa Mayo, Zitha Kwinika, Bruce Bvuma, Dillan Solomons, Sibongiseni Mthethwa and Pule Mmodi. With Mayo showing glimmers of form and Mmodi always a useful guy to deploy in several attacking positions, the other five are likeliest to leave.

Musona was earning R18.85 million a year after Kaizer Chiefs

Now with Scottland FC in Zimbabwe, 35-year-old Knowledge Musona was once earning around R18.85 million per year without bonuses. That’s according to the Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad. As recently as early 2025, the ex-Kaizer Chiefs man was reportedly bagging as much as R10 million annually, even in the twilight years of his career in the Gulf region.

Musona has enjoyed an esteemed career since leaving Kaizer Chiefs in 2012. He’s had stints in Germany, Belgium and Saudi Arabia spanning 13 years, before eventually returning to his home country. Musona scored 27 times in 54 Zimbabwe caps, a neat ratio of a goal every other game.
