Mamelodi Sundowns are aiming to do a historic group stage double over African Champions Al Ahly when they host them at FNB Stadium today – here’s how the two sides line-up!
After their historic 1-0 win in Cairo, Sundowns top the group on seven points, three ahead of Al Ahly, Al Hilal and Al Merrikh.
Lakay says victory at the FNB Stadium this afternoon could almost ensure Sundowns’ qualification for the knockout stages.
“We made history in Cairo by beating Ahly on their home ground for the first time, bearing in mind that they are the current Champions,” Lakay told the club’s website ahead of the game.
“It would be a great achievement to beat them home and away, but it won’t be easy. We are preparing for this game like any other game, we do our analysis during the week leading up to the game, then we take it from there.
“It’s always one game at a time but also we try to look ahead, especially because we’ve set ourselves a target in the group stages, we are currently on seven points and I think if we reach ten points you will basically then qualify if I’m not mistaken.
“Knowing us, as Mamelodi Sundowns team we go out to win each and every game, and this game is no different to any other game and we are going in to win it. We will go out there and give it our all because we want to win the game.”
