Mamelodi Sundowns started the 2024/25 CAF Champions League campaign on a high with a 4-0 victory over Mbabane Swallows at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday.
It was a statement win by the Brazilians in this second preliminary round, first-leg clash, in which they were the away side in Tshwane.
Lucas Ribeiro Costa grabbed a brace, first scoring as early as the third minute before striking again in the 54th minute.
Defender Mosa Lebusa added his name in the 17th minute, while new signing Iqraam Rayners scored five minutes before halftime.
The Tshwane giants now go into the second leg enjoying a healthy lead following their emphatic victory.
Even if they lose 3-0, they will still reach the group stage of the Champions League.
It was the first start for Rayners, as well as other new arrivals Asekho Tiwani and Arthur Sales, who were also in the line-up.
Captain Ronwen Williams was back from a spell on the sidelines due to injury, while midfielder Lebohang Maboe got a rare start.
Meanwhile, Sekhukhune United went 1-0 down to Angolan side Desportivo Lunda-Sul in the CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round, first-leg match away.
Joca separated the two teams in the 27th minute at 11 November Stadium.
Sekhukhune will now have to turn the tables when they host the Angolans at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.
