Sundowns Name Two Academy Products Among 40-man CAFCL List
Mamelodi Sundowns have named Ntando Nkosi and Jerome Karelse as part of their 40-man registered CAF Champions League squad.
The two young talents that have starred for the DStv Diski Challenge squad have been training with the first team for an extended period after impressing head coach Rulani Mokwena.
The Masandawana boss has stated Karelse (20) will become a ‘special’ player for the club and he’s now been afforded an opportunity to be part of their squad in the DStv Premiership and Africa’s elite club competition.
Nkosi, 18, has been part of the South Africa junior national teams in recent years and the midfielder has been lauded as one of their most promising talents – with the no.7 jersey awarded to the player for the tournament, meanwhile, Karelse has received no.9.
Off-season signings Marcelo Allende, Abubekar Nasir, and Abdelmounaim Bououil look set to make their debuts for the club in the competition this season too.
However, it remains to be seen whether Sundowns will have the luxury of rotation in the Group Stage, as they have been pitted with Al Ahly (Egypt), Al Hilal (Sudan), and Coton Sport (Cameroon) which makes for an extremely challenging away fixtures on the continent.
