In-form Mamelodi Sundowns full-back Khuliso Mudau has been backed to receive a Bafana Bafana call-up from Hugo Broos this month.
Bafana are set to feature in two high-profile friendlies -including a mammoth clash against reigning FIFA World Cup champions France – as preparation for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
And the 26-year-old who’s enjoyed a meteoric rise from the GladAfrica Championship to starring for Sundowns in the short space of two years is being touted for his maiden call-up by his coach Manqoba Mngqithi.
“I think Mudau has done very well from the start of the season until now, I fully agree with you and he’s been one of our standout performers and that’s why he’s made life very difficult even for Thapelo in that space,” he said after his incredible first goal for the club in the 3-0 win over TS Galaxy on Wednesday.
“We still believe as Sundowns coaches that he’s got a little bit more still to give, the potential of that boy is still bigger than what everybody else thinks. Defensively he’s very solid – offensively he’s got a lot of good qualities.
“He can even play as a central midfielder which I think helps him to be able to solve some tactical or technical issues that he’s demanded in the game.
“He’s one of the few modern full-backs that can invert, play central positions comfortably, play wide comfortable, take on opponents, one against one. Those are big attributes and defensively very powerful, very quick as well.
“He wins a lot of duels, his stats are always high up, I’m sure it’s a matter of time that the national coach sees him but I’m very confident he will definitely get into the national team.”
Mudau has been an ever-present figure for Masandawana this season featuring in 20 of their 32 games across all competitions.
