Sundowns Make It 10 Wins In A Row With Chippa Scalp

Mamelodi Sundowns cruised to their 10th consecutive DStv Premiership win after beating Chippa United 2-1 at Loftus Versveld on Tuesday evening.

In the build-up to the fixture Chippa coach Morgan Mammila stated the Sundowns are one of the ‘easiest’ teams to prepare for as they know what to expect from the champions.

However, they were taught a footballing lesson of shoe shine and piano as they chased shadows for most of the first half.

Teboho Mokoena’s 14th-minute opener as he rose highest to header Aubrey Modiba’s set-piece was the only goal but it could have been more had it not been for some questionable decision-making in the final third by Sundowns attackers.

The fluent system featuring Cassius Maulula, Haashim Domingo, Themba Zwane, Marcelo Allende and Sphephele Mkhlulise was a mesmerising at times and it proved more of the same in the second half.

Peter Shalulile, who has been out for the last three months returned to the pitch ten minutes in – and ten minutes later he scored his seventh league goal of the season.

The Namibian hitman who’s already secured three Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot awards moved level with Bradley Grobler and Bonfils Caleb Bimenyimana on the charts when he slotted home Sifiso Ngobeni’s cross.

The three points were wrapped up with ease despite Chippa securing a stoppage time consolation when Thabiso Lebitso headed Ronaldo Maarman’s pint-point cross to end Ronwen Williams nine-match clean sheet streak.
