Sundowns made to sweat for victory by Swallows

Mamelodi Sundowns were made to sweat for victory by Swallows in a DStv Premiership clash on Tuesday evening at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

Neo Maema and Themba Zwane scored in the second half to ensure Banyana Ba Style seal maximum points.

The victory meant Sundowns are still unbeaten under Rulani Mokwena as they stretched their run to five consecutive victories.

Sundowns started the game on the front foot going for all attack.

Teboho Mokoena was the first to try to find the back of the net in the eighth minute. However, his long-range effort was well dealt with by Swallows goalkeeper Thakasani Mbanjwa.

Six minutes later Mokoena came close again, but his shot was blocked by Swallows defenders in the box to keep the score level at 0-0.

Swallows’ first attempt at goal came in the 18^th minute through a header; however, Ronwen Williams was alert. In-form Cassius Mailula also tried his luck, but his effort went over the crossbar.

The first half ended nil all. The Tshwane giants were the better side between the two.

In the second half, Sundowns continued from where they had left off. Gaston Sirino was the first to threaten but was denied by the keeper in the 51^st minute.

Neo Maema finally broke the deadlock 64 minutes into the game to hand the hosts the lead.

Skipper Themba Zwane made it two in quick succession scoring just after four minutes.

The victory saw Sundowns restore their seven points gap at the summit of the log, whilst. Ernst Middendorp is still searching for his first point as Swallows coach.

ROYAL AM VS FS GALAXY

In another encounter played on Tuesday, Royal AM and TS Galaxy shared the spoils in a goalless draw.

Both sides couldn’t find the back of the net despite creating many scoring opportunities.

The stalemate left the two clubs positioned eighth and ninth respectively on the log table with 17 points.
