Sundowns legend names PSL Footballer of the Season top three

Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns continue to drive the Betway Premiership title race, and naturally, the individual awards conversation is heating up at the same time. With only a few matches left, fans are already debating who deserves the biggest individual honour in the league.

One name that keeps coming up is Relebohile Mofokeng. The 21-year-old has been central to Pirates’ attacking play, especially in the second half of the campaign where he has delivered goals and assists at crucial moments.

MAMELODI SUNDOWNS STARS STILL IN THE MIX

At Sundowns, Khuliso Mudau and Iqraam Rayners have also quietly built strong cases. Mudau has been reliable at right-back, while Rayners has found consistency in front of goal after a slow start to the season.

Former striker Katlego Mphela believes the race is tighter than it looks, even though one player stands out above the rest at the moment.

“My top three will obviously be Rele. He must be there. He has been consistent. He will be my first choice. And then Khuliso Mudau,” Mphela told the media. “He had a good season. He started slow because of the issues he had with the team. (Iqraam) Rayners has to be there because he has been consistent in front of goals.

“Those would be my top three,” Mphela said to media during the Soweto derby press conference on Thursday.

ORLANDO PIRATES STAR SETTING THE PACE

Mofokeng’s impact has gone beyond just numbers. His ability to influence matches, drift into dangerous spaces and link play has made him one of the most feared players in the league right now.

At the same time, Sundowns’ consistency as a team keeps their players firmly in the conversation. Winning the league often strengthens individual cases, and that could still play a role in how the final decision is made.
