Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies were knocked out of The Women’s Cup after losing 3-0 to Kansas City Current at CPKC Stadium on Thursday.

Kansas City secured the win with first-half goals from Alexa Spaanstra, Michelle Cooper and Vanessa DiBernardo.

They will now play Atlético Madrid in the final on Saturday.

Sundowns will compete for third place against Japanese team INAC Kobe, who lost to Atlético Madrid on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

This was the first time Kansas City faced a team from another continent, and they handled it well.

Sundowns managed to hold off Kansas City’s attacks at the start of the match, but they conceded a goal in the 24th minute.

Spaanstra cut in from the right wing and scored with a long-range shot that Sundowns’ goalkeeper Ayanda Dlamini couldn’t stop.

Sundowns almost came back in the 36th minute when Andisiwe Mgcoyi tried a long-range shot, forcing a good save from Kansas City’s goalkeeper Almuth Schult.

But two minutes later, Kansas City’s Cooper scored a second goal by getting past Dlamini and finishing into the empty net.

Just before half-time, Kansas City scored a third goal through DiBernardo, who curled the ball into the net after being left unmarked during a corner kick.
