Mamelodi Sundowns leap-frogged Kaizer Chiefs to the top of the DStv Diski Challenge, after winning 1-0 in their match on Sunday afternoon.

It was a table-topping clash at the Tsakane Stadium on Saturday, with the winners knowing they’d be top at the end of the weekend, while a draw would also be enough to keep the Amakhosi top after six games.

It was end-to-end action between Vela Khumalo’s young Amakhosi side and Sinethemba Badela’s Downs juniors, and both teams will wonder how the game stayed goalless for as long as it did, with glaring missed opportunities at either end in the opening hour.

But Sundowns finally broke the deadlock in the 64th minute as Keabetswe Ramotsei ran onto Mzwekhanya Nknonxeni’s through ball and Takalani Mazhamba was finally beaten in the Chiefs goal.

And that goal proved to be the winner and enough for Downs to go top, while Chiefs drop from first to third, behind Orlando Pirates on goal difference.

Earlier in the day there were wins for Swallows — who beat a wasteful Cape Town Spurs 3-0; Cape Town City — who won 2-1 at Polokwane City; SuperSport United — 4-0 winners over AmaZulu; and Stellenbosch, who beat Royal AM 3-1

On Saturday Orlando Pirates won 3-0 at Chippa United, while TS Galaxy and Sekhukhune United drew 1-1 and  Golden Arrows and Richards Bay shared the points in a 2-2 draw.
