Sundowns give forgotten man a ‘brand new deal’

Mamelodi Sundowns have reached an agreement with a struggling first-team player over a new deal at the club.

The Brazilians are moving swiftly to secure the futures of players they deem necessary at the club.

29-year-old goalkeeper Jody February looks set for a big future at the club.

Sundowns keeper signs new deal

Last week, Jody February made the Mamelodi Sundowns match-day squad for the first time this season.

February was named on the bench in his side’s Nedbank Cup clash against Gomora United.

And now, new reports suggest the player has been identified as a long-term Ronwen Williams replacement.

February has signed a brand new two-year contract at Chloorkop. Sundowns also reportedly have an option to extend it by a further year.

The news was recently confirmed by his agent Mike Makaab.

“We’ve signed a new deal. He recovered from a serious injury,” his agent told Soccer Laduma.

“He’s committed his future to the club. We’ve just got to make sure that he continues on the full road to recovery. He’s now match fit, and let’s see how it pans out.”

February’s numbers in the PSL

Since joining Mamelodi Sundowns in 2019, February has made just eight appearances for the club.

This has been mainly due to the fact that he was initially loaned out during his first three seasons.

When he did eventually return in 2023, Ronwen Williams’ form, coupled with injuries, made it difficult for him to receive virtually any game-time at Chloorkop.

Now, he’ll be hoping for an improvement in game-time going forward.
