Mamelodi Sundowns have an opportunity to strengthen their grip on the Betway Premiership summit when they host struggling Siwelele at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The Brazilians, who currently sit at the top of the table on 16 points, can move six points clear of second-placed Orlando Pirates with victory over Siwelele.
The match, scheduled for 7.30pm, will be Sundowns’ seventh league fixture of the campaign.
With Pirates not in action, Sundowns can take advantage of the gap in fixtures and put further pressure on their closest challengers. A victory would take the reigning champions to 19 points, six ahead of Pirates on 13, although Sundowns would have played two matches more than the Buccaneers.
Masandawana will enter the encounter with confidence after establishing themselves as the early pace-setters, while Siwelele arrive in Pretoria desperate to stop a worrying slide.
Siwelele searching for answers
The visitors have endured a miserable start to the campaign, going five matches without a victory.
Siwelele have collected just two points from their opening five league matches, leaving them deep in the lower reaches of the table. Their latest setback was a 3-2 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday.
The poor run has already resulted in a major change in the technical team.
Siwelele parted ways with head coach Lehlohonolo Seema and his assistant Willem Jackson following the defeat to Chiefs. The club confirmed that Godfrey Mosoetsa would take charge of the first team as caretaker coach while the club reviews its technical structure.
