Mamelodi Sundowns broke their own PSL record after they downed Royal AM 5-1 in a DStv Premiership match on Tuesday night at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

Fresh from hitting five against Al Ahly over the past weekend, Masandawana produced another awesome performance against Thwihli Thwahla.

Peter Shalulile struck twice while other goals were scored by Mothobi Mvala, Cassius Mailula and Zakahle Ngcobo (own goal).

MAMELODI SUNDOWNS BREAK RECORD SET IN 1999

This was their 11th consecutive victory at home. And according to OptaJabu, they surpassed their own record of 10 straight wins at home that they set in 1999.

Now, as things stand, the Brazilians only need four points to wrap up the league. A win and a draw would be enough for them to secure their sixth consecutive title.

However, if the second-placed SuperSport United fail to win against Orlando Pirates on Saturday, that would potentially accelerate things for Mokwena’s side. Bafana Ba Style would then have to win their next game to win the league with six games to spare.

For now, they will shift their focus to the CAF Champions League as they’re gearing up to face Al Hilal on Saturday.

Thereafter, they will rest a week before they host Coton Sport in their last group stage match on the 1st of April.

ROYAL AM SURRENDER THEIR SIX-MATCH UNBEATEN RUN

Meanwhile, with a loss to Sundowns, Royal AM surrendered their six-match unbeaten run in all competitions.

They came to the country’s capital with their tales up after not losing since reuniting with their coach John Maduka.

Now, AM will only return to action on the 1st of April when they travel to Bloemfontein to take on the relegation-threatened Marumo Gallants.

They’re currently in seventh position on the log standings having collected 29 points in 23 games.
