Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies go into the FIFA break on top of the Hollywoodbets Super League log following their 1-0 win over Ma-Indies Ladies in a top vs bottom clash, at Noordelikes rugby club in Polokwane.
Andisiwe Mgcoyi scored the only goal of the match in the 38th minute to secure three important points.
Coupled with their 8-1 riot midweek over First Touch Academy, the defending champions have moved to 47 points from 18 matches. Ma-Indies remain at the bottom of the log with only six points from 17 outings.
University of Western Cape (UWC) kept pace with the log leaders, as they defeated City Lads 2-1 at Isaac Wolfson Stadium. Amogelang Motau and Sibulele Holweni were on target for the Blues, as they fell into second with 45 points in 17 matches – one less than Downs. Meanwhile, the Lads maintained 13th spot with 11 points from the same number of games.
TS Galaxy Queens’ nine-match unbeaten run came to end, as they lost 2-1 to fellow rookies University of Pretoria at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium. The result saw the Queens remain in third place tied on 37 points with JVW behind them, while Tuks also stayed in sixth spot with 32 points both from 17 encounters.
Next week, the league offers a match-day for catch-up games before it will break for the duration of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand between 20 July and 20 August.
