‘Sundowns Are Not Competing In The PSL’

Mamelodi Sundowns are not signing players to compete with Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates in the PSL, according to Teko Modise.

Sundowns have been dominant in the transfer market over recent seasons and their extravagant outlay to secure the likes of Erwin Saavedra, Bradley Ralani, Teboho Mokoena in the January transfer window raised eyebrows.

This was mainly due to the likes of Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates not dipping into the market despite lagging 19 and 17 points behind Masandawna in the league respectively.

Modise posed the question of whether they ‘want to compete’ against Sundowns before stating the Brazilians cannot be concerned about who the rest of the league are targeting when they have other ambitions at plat.

“Sundowns are not making signings to compete with those in the PSL, they competing for the African continent, that’s where the goal is,” Modise told iDiski Times at a recent media event.

“So we can’t really base that and start judging other teams, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are still rebuilding, Pirates you see a lot of new faces they’re rebuilding.

“Chiefs has a new coach, new players that have come in so for them to compare themselves to Sundowns who’s been very consistent for a long time, it’s unfair. But these are teams who are capable of bouncing back any time.

“They have good quality players and sometimes you just need a bit of luck to get that consistency going and I think they can get that.”

Sundowns are currently in Cairo where they will face their former manager Pitso Mosimane and his Al Ahly charges on Saturday evening.
