Summerfield Dynamos booked their place in the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals on Sunday afternoon with a 1-0 win over Black Eagles at Chatsworth Stadium.

Despite a dominant display with plenty of chances, the hosts were unable to find a breakthrough against Kabelo Sibiya’s resilient side in the first 10 minutes of the showdown.

However, the visitors were quick out of the blocks as the half progressed.

A few minutes before the half-time, the KwaZulu-Natal side really applied pressure in the latter stages of the first period.

The game went into the interval with a 0-0 scoreline.

Back out for the remaining last 45 minutes, the game continued in a similar fashion, with Summerfield pushing forward in numbers, and more clear-cut chances being created.

Eagles were awarded a penalty in stoppage time in the second stanza, but it was saved by Bongani Masoga to keep the home side in the match.

The final whistle blew with nothing to separate both sides after the end-to-end second period, which led to extra time.

In the 92nd minute of the extra time, Tumelo Bodibe couldn’t sort out his feet and turned Mcedi Vandala’s cross into his own net to put Summerfield in front.

In the end, Clinton Larsen’s troops showed their grit to claim a victory against the North West-based outfit and booked their spot in the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals.
