This comes after heated student council elections, during which the EFF Student Command and the ANC-linked South African Students Congress clashed, even burning each other’s tents.
TUT’s extracurricular development office hosted a cultural event at the Ga-Rankuwa campus to foster unity among students.
Students proudly displayed their traditional heritage, with some choosing to wear outfits from other cultures to symbolise unity.
The event featured traditional food, drinks, clothing, and dance performances.
Danisa Makhubela, a Public Finance student, expressed her excitement about the event.
She said that students had the opportunity to learn about different South African cultures.
“Even if we are far from home, we are still given the opportunity to promote our culture,” she said.
“It is quite an experience, and everyone is happy as each culture performs. This event happens every year, but this year it was indeed an extravagant one.”
