Strangled, raped and hit with a rock – Woman killed for refusing to have sex in Zamdela

A 31 year old Man has handed himself over to the police after allegedly killing the woman he was with the previous night.

A 31-year-old male has been arrested after  in connection with an alleged rape and murder of a 34-year-old woman on Saturday, 7 May 2022 at Zamdela.

It is alleged that the victim and her boyfriend’s friend went out on a drinking spree in the absence of the victim’s boyfriend. The victim and the suspect continued hopping from one tavern to the other drinking.

It is further alleged that both drank uncontrollably. The suspect proposed to sleep with the victim, however, she refused. Investigation revealed that the suspect strangled the victim and went on to strike her with a stone on the head. Information suggested that the victim was also raped, undressed and left with only a t-shirt on and a pair of shoes next to her lifeless body.

The following day, a 31-year-old man went to Zamdela police station to report the matter. He has been arrested for his involvement in the commission of this heinous rape and murder.

He will be charged and is expected to appear before Sasolburg Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 10 May 2022.
